NIZA DAGAN - About my Work
All my life I have loved working with my hands.
When my children went to school we, the parent's, formed
a group for drawing lessons, but I soon discovered that
this was not enough for me.
I took abstract art lessons with a special teacher. Then I
studied in Ein Hod Art School for one year., and after that
I studied in the Avny Institute.
In 1983 I moved to Africa where my husband worked, and
we lived there for some years. The atmosphere inspired
me to start a series of colorful oil paintings with bright and
lively colors, which where the opposite to the dark and
grey surroundings.
After I came back to Israel, I continued to work with oil for
some more years.
I fell in love with watercolors when we moved to live in Venezuela. I was very impressed by the
sensuality of the Latinos women. They were so colorful, so full of movement, and they danced so
sensuously to the Latinos Music. I felt so captivated that all my senses came alive.
I began working with watercolor, teaching myself to capture these vivid impressions. Since then I
have sought to capture the vision and the mysterious essence of these women.
I started to draw Full Women, which I found to have so much beauty and voluptuousness.
The women in my paintings symbolize the spiritual force, the centre around which Life and Nature
revolve.
